Roll-Ups and Setting up the Green

Roll ups

Dress code is informal, shoes should be flat (to prevent damage to the green) and should protect your toes. If in doubt ask advice on footwear.

Informal roll-ups take place every Tuesday and Saturday morning from 10.00. You can just turn up and meet with others to play informally. Members organize themselves into groups, set up the greens and clear up afterwards. Any member turning up will get a game.

You can arrange your own roll-up or practice sessions with or without other members, the rink is available from 10.00 until sun-set every day EXCEPT Monday and Friday  mornings, when rink maintenance work is in progress. You will be responsible for setting up the greens and packing away and locking up afterwards.  The equipment for setting up the rinks is  stored on the green.

Keys to the green and sheds are kept in the clubhouse.

A diary is kept in the clubhouse  for booking rinks for a practice or for competition matches, however any club, league or county competition matches or organized club events take precedence.

Setting up the greens

The six individual rinks run north-south, or east-west, and are rotated weekly to prevent wear. Also, during each week the position of the rinks is moved sideways by colour - white, yellow, and blue - indicated by painted symbols on the inside of the boundary of the green. The direction and placement of the rinks, for any day, are written on a notice located inside the far storage shed within the green.

Important – As soon as the padlocks have been opened return the keys to their place on the hooks. Do not put them in your pocket!

For each rink, at each end, you will need a mat, a bowls pusher, a jack and a number plate, which should be placed on the appropriate painted triangle for the day. It should be the same colour at each end.

You will find a set of equipment for each numbered rink on a green wooden tray on the top shelf in the shed. You may also need a scoreboard and a measuring stick. Ask any club member if you are unsure.
